Its wielder should be grouped with other survivors and kept at a safe distance. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers allow it to fire more rounds in a shorter time, thanks to the faster reload speed. - Ammunition Mods improves its low damage. BACKGROUND: A classic recreational rifle that has been the highlight of many happy childhoods, and the bane of countless tin cans for decades! Its ammunition is plentiful and dirt-cheap, which makes this a perfect plinker for training, boredom, or when there is simply no better firearm at hand. It is also the perfect gift for any young post-apocalyptic child in your encampment. Available in any North American gun store. However, it is nowhere near as effective at close range, due to a slow attack speed and a small magazine. Best used alongside teammates equipped for close-quarters and for raids. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Mods further buffs up its high damage. - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers compensate for its slow reload. - Extended Mags give a slight boost to ammo capacity, with some variants improving reload speed as well. - Glasses greatly increase the effective range. BACKGROUND: A classic sporting rifle with a following that has lasted many decades, commonly used in marksmanship competitions, small-game hunting and general recreation. It is a comfortable gun for shooters of all levels, thanks to its small cartridge and simple operation. Available in any North American gun store. However, that same attack speed also means that its magazine will be emptied quickly, which, along with an average reload speed, will result in its wielder spending more time reloading than shooting. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers increases reload speed even further, reducing the amount of time survivors spend reloading. - Extended Mags extend the already large magazine size even further, with some variants increasing reload speed as well. - Shoes help mitigate the move speed penalty. BACKGROUND: A soviet semi-auto carbine fitted into a comfortable aftermarket sporting stock, which makes for a handy survival/ranch rifle that is great for warding off pesky varmints from either your livestock or your daughter's honor. The fastest firing long rifle in the game, it also comes with a large magazine and decent damage per shot, allowing its wielder to shred even decently-sized groups of zombies without needing to reload. However, its relatively low accuracy means it is best given to survivors with a high Ranged Combat skill. Recommended gear: - Extended Mags enhance its magazine size further, allowing it to lay down fire for even longer. Some variants will also speed up its reloads. - Weapon Cleaning Kits improve its relatively low accuracy, making it excellent for survivors with a low Ranged Combat skill. - Glasses improve its range, giving its wielder a bit more breathing room. Some variants also boost its accuracy, useful for survivors with a low Ranged Combat skill. - Ammunition Mods improve its damage, allowing it to bring down zombies more quickly and efficiently. BACKGROUND: Belgium's Fusil Automatique Léger ("Light Automatic Rifle") is a heavy but accurate and reliable weapon that was largely NATO's standard infantry rifle throughout the Cold War. Lighter assault rifles eventually replaced it, but many nations still manufacture and use their own iterations of "The Right Arm of The Free World". Many were exported to the U.S. after the Cold War, and it remains a popular rifle among gun enthusiasts. However, it hits harder and is more accurate than the former, making this weapon even more effective. Unfortunately, like the latter, it has a small magazine; when combined with an extremely long reload time, the user will most likely spend more time reloading than shooting. Be sure to provide support from other survivors. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers to quicken its extremely long reload sequence. - Ammunition Mods to further increase its damage. - Extended Mags to increase its small magazine. BACKGROUND: A semi-automatic rifle bearing the name of its designer, intended to allow Soviet marksmen embedded in infantry squads to provide effective long-range fire support. Its ease of operation and rapid yet accurate rate of fire make it an incredibly popular weapon with today's snipers, despite the age of its design. The primary sniper rifle of former-Soviet nations, it has also been sold in commercial forms to the hunting community.  Variations: SUPPRESSED SCOPED SUPPRESSED + SCOPED   Obtained By: Looting or Crafting (with Recoilless) Guaranteed stat: -80% Noise -10% Damage -20% Enemy suppression Obtained By: Looting Guaranteed stat: +15% Range +3% Accuracy Obtained By: Looting Guaranteed stat: -80% Noise -10% Damage -20% Enemy suppression +15% Range +3% Accuracy PSG1 ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ [HERC DATASET ENTRY: PSG1] ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ Damage Attacks Per Second DPS Range Accuracy Ammo Cost Knockback 100 - 120 1.6 85.3 DPS 22 72.5% 90 10% Reload Speed Fire Mode Magazine Size Minimum effective range Noise Move Speed Penalty Other Effects 3 seconds Semi-Automatic 10 8 15 -10% How to Obtain: Crafting:   Recycling products: Barrel x 1 Bolt Assembly x 1 Sights x 1 Machined Parts x Variable (dependent on the item's Level and attachments/conditions) Overview: PROS: - Very High Damage - Long Effective Range - Reloads Quickly  (vs. other long rifles) CONS: - High Ammo Cost - Low RoF - Moderate Move Speed Penalty  (vs. other long rifles) - Inaccurate  (vs. other long rifles) TACTICS: A shorter ranged, higher RoF version of the  M-24 , the PSG1 weapon is far more effective against zombies due to its faster rate of fire and smaller minimum effective range. However, its shorter range makes it a less effective raiding weapon, where range is just as important as raw damage. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Mods to buff up its already formidable damage. - Glasses increases its already impressive range, with some variants also improving accuracy. BACKGROUND: The German Präzisionsschützen g ewehr ("precision-shooter rifle") was born in the wake of a great tragedy which highlighted the need for a fast-firing yet still accurate rifle. Even several decades after it was first designed, many snipers would say that it still adequately fulfills that need. An expensive firearm used in small numbers by elite law enforcement and military units. However, its slow attack speed, long minimum range and high move speed penalty make it a good deal less useful in missions, where enemies are far more numerous. Its high ammo cost also makes it impractical to bring one, especially given its inefficiency against large groups. Grouping its wielder with other survivors will help to counteract its weaknesses. In addition, its accuracy is somewhat low for a rifle, so handing it to a survivor that has a high Ranged combat skill and/or specializes in long rifles is recommended. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Mods to increase its relatively low damage. - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers to compensate for the slow reload. - Glasses to enhance its effective range even further, with some variants increasing accuracy as well. BACKGROUND: The U.S. military's standard sniper rifle can hit targets accurately at distances of up to 1000 meters. This variant features a detachable box magazine, which increases reload speed and efficiency over the internal magazines of previous models. Used by both law enforcement and the military. However, while a decently fast reload and relatively large magazine leaves it less vulnerable to being swarmed than other long rifles, it's still not recommended for close quarters and is best used from a distance, preferably with support from other survivors. Recommended gear: - Glasses to further improve range, with some variants improving accuracy as well. - Bandoliers to improve reload speed, reducing the amount of time survivors spend reloading the weapon. BACKGROUND: An upsized version of the M-416, this battle rifle retains many of the same improvements over the M4 carbine. Its biggest difference from the M-416 is that it fires the hard hitting 7.62mm NATO round from a longer barrel, greatly increasing its stopping power and range. Favored by some special forces and law enforcement units as a designated marksman's rifle. It is vulnerable to being swarmed, however, due to its small magazine and slow rate of fire, and its speed penalty makes escaping danger much more difficult. Protecting its wielder with other survivors is highly recommended. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Mods to further improve damage, ensuring 1-shot kills. - Bandoliers to decrease downtime due to reloading. - Glasses to increase it's extreme range further, with some variants improving BACKGROUND: A descendant of the M82 Barrett, the M107-CQ fires the same .50 BMG round from a lightened frame and shortened barrel, while retaining most of its devastating power. It's typically used where the power of a .50 caliber rifle is needed, but the bulk of its bigger brothers prohibits their use, such as in vehicles and urban environments. Primarily used by the military, with some available for civilian purchase. Its move speed penalty is also the highest in the game, making it difficult for its wielder to flee. The MSR-82 is best used in large maps with plenty of open space, and should be adequately covered by other survivors. It may also be better used in compound defense, rather than on missions. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Mods to beef up its already immense damage rating. - Extended Mags/Bandoliers to improve its reload speed. - Glasses to improve accuracy and range. BACKGROUND: This descendant of the original M82 frightens even its users with its deafening sounds and intimidating size. The mounted bipod and lengthy barrel puts it on par with the M107, but its absurd weight makes it difficult even for a well-equipped team to carry around. Used exclusively by the military. Giving it to survivors with a high Ranged Combat skill for better results, though the aid of gear is also recommended. Recommended gear: - Ammunition Pouch/Bandolier to improve reload speed, reducing the amount of time survivors spend reloading the weapon. - Extended Mags to boost its small magazine, allowing for more shots to be fired before reloading. - Glasses to increase its effective range, allowing survivors to pick at zombies from a distance. BACKGROUND: A prototype sniper rifle based on the SVD, the VS-121 is distinguished from its predecessor by its bullpup design, reducing the overall length and weight of the weapon without compromising accuracy or stopping power. This makes it easy to carry and maneuver in tight spaces, a useful feature for troops deployed in urban areas. Other than that, it performs better in large, open areas rather than closed quarters. Survivor support is required whenever infected close in or the wielder needs to reload. Recommended gear: - Glasses to further improve range, with some variants improving accuracy as well. - Extended Mags to increase its small magazine, allowing more shots to be fired. BACKGROUND: The G28 is a designated marksman rifle based on the civilian version of the M-417. Some of its parts are made from steel instead of the manufacturer's aluminium alloy and approximately 75% of the parts are interchangeable with the M-417. Several models were purchased by the military shortly before the outbreak but never made it into service. Still, the increased range, damage, and accuracy are more than welcome when it comes to counter hostile snipers/survivors during compound raid/defense, HERC troopers during Union Island or infected, should the wielder have the backup of fellow survivors. Recommended gear: - Glasses to increase its already long range, with some models increasing accuracy as well. - Extended Mags to increase the number of shots fired before reloading. - Ammunition Pouches/Bandoliers to increase reload speed. BACKGROUND: The M40 is a bolt-action rifle used by the USMC that has seen action in recent conflicts. Unlike the M24 rifle, which is also used by the military, all M40s are modified by military armorers using components from a number of suppliers instead of being factory-made as sniper rifles. The A5 series features a threaded muzzle and straight tapered barrel to allow the installation of a muzzle brake and sound suppressor. Several of these rifles were diverted from the Middle East and shipped back home to aid in the control the outbreak. BACKGROUND: The Russian  Samozaryadniy Karabin sistemy Simonova (Self-loading Carbine of the Simonov system) is a Soviet-made semi-automatic rifle designed by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov in 1944. Though the Soviets quickly phased out the SKS in favor of the AK-47, millions of SKS rifles were produced in China and soon sold overseas as curio items in the U.S. up until 1994. Seen as the "poor man's deer rifle", Chinese copies are the most common find, although ceremonial variants of the Soviet version are still used by the Russian Honor Guard today.
